The Feminist Summit Condemns Houthi Escalation in Taiz and Calls for Urgent International Action to Protect Civilians and Lift the Siege

The Feminist Summit is following with grave concern the dangerous military escalation launched by the Houthi militia in Taiz Governorate, accompanied by the shelling of residential neighborhoods, targeting of civilians and service facilities, and the tightening and expansion of the siege imposed on the city to cover new areas of the governorate—a situation that portends a humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of millions of residents and exacerbating their years-long ongoing suffering.

The Summit expresses its full solidarity with Taiz Governorate and condemns the continuation of the siege, road closures, and the prevention of food, medical supplies, and fuel flow, along with the resulting deterioration of basic services and severe shortages of water, food, and medicine, emphasizing that depriving civilians of their basic needs constitutes collective punishment and violates the principles of international humanitarian law.

The Summit warns of worsening humanitarian conditions, as local authority data indicates that the number of besieged people inside the city stands at approximately 2.8 million, while recent displacement waves have affected over 4,000 families. It stresses that women and girls, particularly pregnant and lactating women as well as displaced females, face doubled suffering due to deteriorating health services and restricted access to maternal and child care, alongside the loss of shelter and livelihoods and heightened risks of violence and exploitation, thereby threatening their safety, dignity, and fundamental rights.

The Yemeni Feminist Summit calls upon the UN Security Council, the United Nations, and the international community to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and act urgently to halt attacks, protect civilians, and exert effective international pressure to lift the siege, open roads and access points, and ensure freedom of movement and unhindered access for humanitarian aid in accordance with international humanitarian law, relevant Security Council resolutions, and agreed-upon reference frameworks.

Furthermore, the Summit calls on UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, and donor entities to intensify urgent response efforts for affected populations, ensure the continuous operation of health facilities and essential services, and provide protection, healthcare, and psychosocial support for women, children, and displaced persons, while addressing the specific needs of women and girls in alignment with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.

The Feminist Summit reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the people of Taiz Governorate, emphasizing that protecting civilians, women, and children and ending their suffering is an international responsibility that brooks no delay, and that lifting the siege and halting violations are a humanitarian necessity and a fundamental step toward achieving a just and sustainable peace that preserves the dignity and rights of Yemenis.
